This is an interesting way of doing advertising. William Rast is a Jean line by Justin Timberlake. On the home site for William Rast they have little move trailers of these characters wearing the clothing. The trailers are completely random and I'm not really sure of their relevance to the clothes...maybe the characters are supposed to reach out to certain comsumers....

Axe will fix you up
"Axe will fix you up" no matter how messy your night was. Well let's hope so for the party animals that this commerical is targeted towards.
I found the offical commercial seen on t.v. and the uncut version. It's really interesting to compare the two and see what was cut out and what was kept.

SNUS smush
When I first saw this ad I was like what the heck is SNUS? It looked like a gum advertisement. And then I saw the Camel and I was even more confused. And then I saw the "WARNING: This product may cause mouth cancer" and I kinda giggled to myself. How can you advertise something and then have to put that on there. But anyways, this is the definition of SNUS:
According to Wikipedia, snus (pronounced snoose) is:
…a moist powder tobacco product that is consumed by placing it under the upper lip for extended periods of time. It is a form of snuff that is used in a manner similar to American dipping tobacco, but typically does not result in the need for spitting…The sale of snus is illegal in the European Union, but due to an exemption in Sweden. It is still manufactured and consumed primarily in Sweden and Norway.

Very interesting. I guess since smoking is out chewing is in? hmmm...YUCK.
De Lijn Transport Services
This is a cute advertisement. Reminded me of those mini Pixar movies. Cute and light. And who doesn't love penguins!
Gilly Hicks
I recently just found this new underwear store called Gilly Hicks that belongs under the same company as Abercombie and Fitch. I was amazed at the layout of the store...you walk in and feel like your in a whole different world of bras and panties. It's kind of a maze of room after room that you have to walk through to get to the end of the store where the register is. Then as your waling out you have to walk back through all the rooms where I almost stopped two or three more times to look at things even after I had already bought something. Pretty sneaky idea of making you want to buy more.

Pepsi Max
Pepsi had taken a different angle on the diet soda spectrum. I was listening to the radio this morning and a commercial for Pepsi Max came on. I thought it was hilarious but couldn't find it on the internet. I found the tv commercial though...
The radio commercial described Pepsi Max as the many version of diet soda where Diet Coke is the womanly version. There was a line that went along the lines of "is buying diet coke right up there with buying your girl friends maxi pads". Pepsi Max definitley knows who their target market is.

Dove ads
I really enjoy the Dove ads. They are doing a self-esteem campaign where their ads show real women. This is a great target market strategy reaching to the real women of the world. Their ads show full curved to petite women to women in their twenties to women in their sixties. The ads have captions that say things such as "never too old to be in an magazine ad" or "i like me real body". When I read them I walk away with a little more confidence and have Dove on my mind. Perfect.
yummy
I dont know why, but I thought this commercial was really funny. All the smacking from the llama and the happy smiley guy really made me want to go get some Starbursts. Llamas are funny!

FREE
On way to catch people's attention is with the word FREE. Magazines are always a good source for this. Everybody loves free no matter what it is they'll stop and look. I came across an advertisement for emusic.com that was a cut out picture of an ipod/mp3 player. On the top of it read "25 FREE SONGS". I got really excited and started looking for a code or something that I would submit to get my free songs. Then, I came across the tiny letters in the back...."free with a 7 day trail subscription, credit card required", and I moved on with my life. This might catch some people. It did make me stop and look at their advertisement. But I wasn't willing to go any farther than absolutley free no strings attached.

Intense advertising
I was looking at my favorites list on my internet browser where I specifically add certain internet sites. At the bottom of the list were two dating sites that were added to my favorites without my knowledge. I was kind of annoyed by this because I felt like they were invading my personal space. I don't think it is a very effective way of advertising because they are two internet sites that I would not be interested in visiting at all. They need a more effective way of picking their target market.

Super Bowl Commercials
I waited patiently throughout all the super bowl commercials for the much anticipated and talked about one second Miller Lite commercials. However, to my disappointment they were never aired. At first, I thought I may had missed the one second ad but it turns out, according to USA TODAY that the Fox network decided against broadcasting the three commercials that had been approved for airing. The commercials make fun of Anheuser-Busch's new Budweiser Select beer. Anheuser-Busch bought the most Super Bowl advertising an so as a result Fox's sales department decided to veto the ads.
"Fox said it would not run commercials portraying Anheuser-Busch, which bought the most Super Bowl advertising time this year, in a negative light, said Jon Nesvig, president of advertising sales at Fox."
Fox sold 30-second spots for up to $2.4 million this year. So apparently in this case, money is more important than freedom of speech or competition in the market.
"It appears to us that Anheuser-Busch is trying to bully us out of the pregame on Super Bowl Sunday," Miller spokesman PeteMarino said. "But we remain confident that our message about new Bud will be well heard and well understood."(http://www.usatoday.com/money/advertising/admeter/2005-02-06-miller-ads-pulled_x.htm)
I don't think it's fair that Fox can decide what can be heard and not heard. As a consumer I want to know what my other options are!
check out the Miller Lite ads....quite a funny concept.

Word Conscious
Last night as I was browsing the ice cream aisle I was faced with a very hard decision. Generally, I am a health conscious person and so look for the healthier options of food if available. However, I came against three different "healthy" options and had to turn to the nutritional label to make the right decision. The three options included the healthy words of light, frozen yogurt (non-fat), and organic. These words are being used so often that they are beginning to lose their true meaning. Out of the three, the frozen-yogurt option is the most healthy with half the fat and less calories. The organic option is actually the most fattening with four times the amount of fat as the frozen-yogurt. So lesson of the day....don't be fooled by trendy healthy words. Actually look at what you are eating.

Facebook: Status: Blogging about Marketing
The other day when I was on Facebook, I started to notice advertising everywhere. There were the paid ads on the side of the page from places to sell back your books, different universities, sorority and fraternity companies, and etc. These were all obviously targeted at the generation of people that started to use Facebook. However, recently, other generations have also been joining Facebook from my parents even to my grandparents. Facebook itself has been targeting a new segment for such a wide variety of people to join.
I also observed how convenient Facebook is for word-of-mouth advertising. My uncle is the perfect example; he owns a micro-brewery in downtown Tacoma and used his status as a tool for marketing. His status ran "Pat is laying out the menu for the Super Bowl Smorgasborg. Super Bowl Party Tickets go on sale now at the Hub. $20. call 683-4606". This then shows up on everyone's homepage and people begin to talk about it and even comment back on his page about this status. Just by posting that, my uncle Pat has started a conversation with hundreds of people about an event. I think that he has caught on to something!
